As August wraps, the industry is already looking ahead to a packed September. gamescom may be coming to a close, but we’ve got a lot to cover in September before the summer ends. Speaking of gamescom, gamescom Congress just set a new attendance record with more than 1,100 visitors, while Germany’s Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier made the first-ever visit by a German head of state to the event. Heads of states visiting game conventions? That’s pretty cool.
September brings plenty of opportunities to continue conversations and meet more of the community itself, starting with PAX West in Seattle and BlizzCon returning to Anaheim after its long absence. Then there’s Tokyo Game Show, which is expanding to five days for the first time. Add a busy slate of developer conferences, networking events, indie showcases, and industry gatherings, and September looks like another month where there will be plenty to talk about.
With all that said, here’s our roundup of the key gaming events taking place throughout September. Whether you’re looking for industry conferences, community conventions, developer talks, or publisher showcases, this calendar highlights the dates worth keeping on your radar as we head into the fall gaming season.
Featured Events
September gets moving immediately, beginning with the IEEE Conference on Games in Madrid (September 1–4), followed by PAX West in Seattle (September 4–7). The following week brings a particularly busy stretch, with Gamesforum London, Live Service Gaming Summit Europe, the Game Publishing and Marketing Summit, and External Development Summit (XDS) all taking place within September 7–11. Meanwhile, the Guerrilla Collective returns September 10–11 with another showcase of upcoming indie games.
The middle of the month is particularly busy. BlizzCon returns to Anaheim (September 12–13), followed by WN Conference Cyprus and MeetToMatch – The Tokyo Edition. And then it’s off to Japan for Tokyo Game Show (September 17–21), which is expanding to its longest-ever five-day format this year.
The final stretch includes D.I.C.E. Europe (September 21–23), Game Devs of Color Expo (September 22–25), NEXUS Game Conference in Dublin (September 23–24), and Games Next in London (September 24–25). The month closes with DevGAMM For The Win! in Belgrade and JetBrains GameDev Days online on September 28–30.
