Is it already that time of year? Summer is winding down, fall is on the horizon, and yes, registration for some of 2027’s biggest events are open (or soon will be). One of these is the Game Developer Conference 2027 Festival of Gaming (GDC).
The GDC Festival of Gaming 2027, scheduled to return to the Moscone Center in San Francisco from March 1–5, 2027, is now offering early bird registration. Following last year’s massive 40th-anniversary rebranding, organizers have announced another major structural shift for the upcoming event, aiming to provide a highly modular and financially accessible experience based on direct industry feedback.
Dedicated Business Spaces and Focused Passes
One of the headline changes for 2027 is the introduction of a dedicated Business Hall at Moscone West. This new zone is designed specifically for meetings, investor conversations, publisher deals, and networking, pulling informal business out of surrounding coffee shops and directly onto the official campus. Meanwhile, speed networking will transition into the main Festival Hall.
To match this spatial redesign, the conference has moved away from its previously unified pass system to roll out three brand-new, budget-conscious entry levels:
-
- Business Hall Only ($99): Built specifically for developers focusing entirely on business development, client relations, and publisher pitches.
- Festival Hall Only ($149): Offers targeted access for attendees looking primarily to play indie demos, explore new development tools, and view showcases.
- 1-Day Career Pass ($99): Grants Friday-only access tailored specifically for students, job-seekers, and career-focused programming.
Eligibility Updates for Independent Studios
Addressing a common pain point from the 2026 event, organizers have officially separated the previous “Early Stage Indie & Start-Up Pass” into two distinct categories. Established independent studios that have been operating for more than five years will no longer be excluded by restrictive start-up criteria, thus creating what should be fairer tier placement across the indie community. Both individual Indie and Start-Up passes are priced at $299.
Early Bird Deadlines
Attendees planning to lock in their travel to San Francisco for the GDC Festival of Gaming 2027 can take advantage of the active Super Early Bird Rate, which offers the deepest discounts of the registration cycle. The deadline to secure these baseline rates is October 9, 2026, at 11:59 pm PT.
