August 2026 Game Industry Conference and Convention Events Calendar

This month is where many games make their first public playable appearances. It’ll be interesting to see what publishers bring to gamescom, alongside gamescom dev, which once again kicks off the week with several days of developer talks. Meanwhile, media partners have confirmed another busy showcase schedule surrounding the event, including multiple Future Games Show broadcasts and the return of Opening Night Live, making August the industry’s next major news cycle after Summer Game Fest.

Notably, gamescom has sold out every available exhibition hall for the first time in its history. After several years of industry layoffs and tighter budgets, it’s a strong sign that publishers and tech companies still see immense value in gathering at the world’s largest gaming event, sans E3 that we’ll never quite get over. It should make for an especially busy week of announcements, demos, and networking.

With all that said, here’s our roundup of the key gaming events taking place throughout August. Whether you’re looking for industry conferences, community conventions, developer talks, or publisher showcases, this calendar highlights the dates worth keeping on your radar during one of the busiest months on the annual games industry calendar.

Featured Events

August’s schedule ramps up quickly, beginning with Serious Play Conference in Durham, North Carolina (August 5–7), followed by QuakeCon in Grapevine, Texas (August 6–9), celebrating three decades of id Software’s legendary community event. Mid-month brings Busan Indie Connect Festival in South Korea (August 14–16), before the industry’s attention turns to Germany for gamescom dev (August 23–25), the Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards (August 25), and, of course, gamescom itself (August 26–30), the largest gaming event in the world.

The month also features several noteworthy events outside the traditional conference circuit. ICGJ (International Conference on Game Jams, Hackathons, and Game Creation Events) takes place in New York (August 21–22). Community-focused events continue with 2D Con in Minnesota (August 21–23).
