We’re based on Texas and never thought we’d get a chance to see PAX South revived – but it turns out we were wrong. While PAX South as a whole won’t be returning from its brief but epic run from 2015 to 2020 in San Antonio, the next best thing – a spin-off of PAX Unplugged, will be coming to the state. PAX Unplugged Houston is set for June 25-27, 2027 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown.
“When we made the decision to investigate the feasibility of another Unplugged, we considered a number of major cities factoring in demand from our exhibitor partners to place a tabletop PAX in this region and city infrastructure. We were always partial to returning to the South, and after comparing a few options we were happy to find that not only was Houston the best place to launch a second Unplugged, but it was a chance to bring PAX back to the PAX South fans that missed us.” – Sean Gonzalez
While PAX West, East, and South traditionally lean heavily into video games, major publishers, and the latest digital releases, PAX Unplugged puts tabletop gaming at the center of the experience. There is still that familiar PAX energy of enthusiastic fans, packed halls, developers, and plenty of things to discover. The atmosphere feels more focused on sitting down and actually playing games with other people. For us, that makes PAX Unplugged stand out as one of the more personal and social shows in the PAX family, especially for anyone who enjoys board and card games, RPGs, and the communities built around them.
PAX Unplugged came about after realizing that the tabletop sections at the original PAX shows kept growing and growing. The first PAX Unplugged took place November 17-19, 2017.
“Whenever we get done with PAX Unplugged out in Philly, I just want to rewind time and do it all again,” said Jerry Holkins in a recent interview with The Dice Tower. “This is the next best thing. And it’ll be great to see our old friends from down that way.”
