Historicon 2025, which took place from July 16-20, was arguably less a convention and more a glorious siege of Lancaster, Pennsylvania by miniature armies and caffeine-fueled strategists. (As it happens, Lancaster is home to numerous historical events and figures, especially in early American history.)
With over 700 participating wargames, the YouTuber, Little Wars TV, valiantly tried to cover a selection of these games, but with a 15 minute video runtime, there’s only so many games and so many gamers they can cover. But their recap is a love letter to history, miniatures, and wargaming
The polished, well-edited video highlights award-winning game masters, epic table setups, and the camaraderie of a community that treats historical accuracy like sacred text. There’s a wink anda nod to the mega-games that stole the show (with Best of Show and Best Terrain winners teased for a follow-up video), and heartfelt thanks to attendees, vendors, and HMGS staff who made it all possible.
I’d say this video is more than just a recap — it feels like a celebration of nerdy joy, where every painted soldier, artillery piece, and foam hill tells a story. In the video, you’ll se glimpses of historical cosplay, stacks of games, tabletop gaming in action, an interview with a young gamemaster running her own game featuring ducks (yep, ducks!), among other fun and interesting glimpses into a kind of gaming experience a video gamer may not see every day.
