Registration Open for Online March GDC Showcase Event

Usually, in March, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) is held at the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco with tens of thousands of attendees — but not in 2021. This is the second year in a row, due to the pandemic, that the late winter time of year will not be able to host GDC. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any GDC event.

Instead, the organizers will be hosting a free, all-digital event, GDC Showcase. Registration has been opened for this event, which will take place March 15 through March 19, a time window that roughly covers the duration of a more traditional in-person GDC.

According to the GDC website, the purpose of the GDC Showcase event will be like a “GDC Lite,” to:

…provide attendees the chance to catch some of the biggest talks from past GDC events, along with a taste of what to expect from more expansive GDC events to come.

At the GDC Showcase, attendees can expect to find ask-me-anything video sessions with developers, revisiting classic GDC talks with the speakers from those talks available live to field Q&A. Plus, new keynotes and interactive panels will be offered as well. Lastly, live episodes of GDC Podcast will be hosted with a variety of guests. The event’s agenda, as it stands at the time of this posting, can be found at this official webpage.

As a bonus for signing up, attendees who sign up by February 5 will receive one free month of GDC Vault access, which is a collection of talks and panels from the last 20 years of GDC.

Among the other events under the GDC umbrella to look forward to over the several months include the GDC Masterclass and GDC 2021 itself, which has been bumped to July and, with fingers crossed, may offer both a hybrid (live and virtual presence).
