More conferences, conventions, and other industry related events are being added to Events for Gamers’ calendar every day for 2023! Check out the calendar’s current listings and let us know if you are attending an event we should add.
We also will be increasing our stories throughout next year, covering all the main events with interviews and other exciting updates from your favorite events. The trend in 2020 and 2021 of more Online and Hybrid events will also continue to be tracked in our monthly event updates. In 2020, there was a surge of Online events due to the pandemic and necessity in continuing conversations about game development. Then in 2021 and through most of 2022 the industry saw the benefits of Online and Hybrid events.
We at Events for Gamers expect 2023 to continue the trend that began in late 2021 but focusing this time on more Hybrid events than Online ones. Onsite events will dominate as they did in 2022, but we expect to see more of them support some form of Hybrid offerings to those who cannot directly attend.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Discord, and now Mastodon for the latest social updates and event news. If you have an event to share for our calendar, please let us know! Any support you can provide is appreciated.
What events in 2023 will be winners? Let’s find out together. See you next year as we join you at these industry’s events!

We’ve put together another great list of events you can attend for June 2025!
The month is shaping up to be really exciting. We’re looking forward to attending the Game Quality Forum Global conference (June 24-26), which always brings great networking opportunities and a nice atmosphere in the city of Lisboa. Then there’s WN Conference Istanbul (June 11-12), one of the best events for connecting with devs across Europe. And if you’re into attending the latest and greatest AI events, Artificial Intelligence and Games (June 23-27) is another highlight—always super collaborative and insightful. On the more consumer front, OttoCon is a favorite of ours (June 7) with big creator vibes and tabletop community love.
There are plenty of conferences in this month’s lineup to explore. It’s a full calendar, and I can’t wait to see what surprises come out of it all. Many of the conferences listed will also have sessions and discussions about the state of the industry that continue from D.I.C.E., GDC, and event conventions like PAX East.

Do you want to join a team that’s focused on promoting and supporting game industry events? We are looking for volunteers to cover conferences like GDC, conventions like PAX, fanfests, small gatherings, and other event types. We need people throughout the world to write about their regional events and industry happenings.
Perks:
Free access to the events and possibly hardware opportunities
Access to VIP meetups and after-parties
Experience to put on your resume and portfolio samples
Opportunities for one-on-one interviews with people you want to meet
Here are a few ways you can contribute (let us know if you think of any others you’d want to dive into!):
BLOGGER OR SOCIAL MEDIA POSTER
There are so many opportunities to write great articles about the industry and share them on social media.
Example of a more indepth on-site event coverage plan:
Write a pre-coverage story about an event and what you expect, what you’re going to check out, etc.
Take lots of pictures with captions and identifiers if possible; these should be posted on social media.
Post on social media:
For Facebook and Instagram: Lots of photos with captions and identifiers if possible.
For Twitter and Bluesky: Picking at least one part of the event to tweet. If it’s a short event, tweet the whole thing; if it’s longer, tweet about what you’re attending (walking the floor, listening to a panel, etc.)
Create videos for E4G’s YouTube channel: Interviews with celebrities and other various people; simple shots of the crowds or whenever photos may not do something justice.
Write an article that sums up the event and your experience.
Or, you could just focus on sharing brief news that you feel would be of interest to our event community on the social media channels.
SPOTLIGHT YOUR EVENT PHOTOS
Do you love taking event photos? Whether you are exploring a conference series of panels or a booth hall at a convention center, we would love to share your experience!
You can capture several photos and videos and even write an article about the event if you like. We will feature your work (you are the author/copyright) on the front page, social media channels, and newsletter!
Don’t have a pass yet to your favorite event? Let us know and we’ll get you one for free in exchange for writing about the event! Contact us.
OTHER WAYS TO CONTRIBUTE
Finding events and letting us know what should be added to the calendar, and correcting/updating us on event information that is out of date
Partner relations and establishing connections with event coordinators and business opportunities (for cost: we can place ads, send out email newsletters, and I’m trying to figure out a few more revenue streams that events and general industry persons would actually want to use). This includes finding sites we can list our calendar on to improve linkback SEO via organic search.
General website/calendar maintenance, SEO tweaking of event pages and blog posts, suggestions on improving the layout, etc.
Not sure about the above but you still want to help, please contact us with your experience and what you have in mind for your contribution. We’d love to have you on board.

DIGITAL MOMENT AWARD
Some Goodbyes We Made
Safe Flight Games, Joey Schutz
It’s truly magical when you play a game that not only engages you, but also moves you.
This year’s winner is a heartbreaking and heartwarming example of that. It takes you on an emotional journey, where you get to experience feelings that are deeply personal and yet relatable.
Through a series of whimsical memories, carefully crafted minigames and a personal narrative voice, you are invited to reflect on the many forms of goodbyes and to consider what it actually means to part ways with someone or something you love.

HUMAN HUMAN MACHINE AWARD
Synch.Live
Hillary Leone and the Synch.Live Team
The HUMAN HUMAN MACHINE AWARD celebrates a game that uses digital tools not to distance us, but to bring us back to each other. Bring us back to our instincts, our awareness, and our humanness. This year’s winning project does something quite rare: it makes technology feel ancient. The award goes to a game that reminds us what it means to be human, even if surrounded by light, tech, and code. It also asks something really simple but, somehow, deeply complex of its players: to connect and to become a single, moving organism.
It’s part performance, part experiment, part play. It’s really satisfying to see a digital project that resists spectacle and instead centers human connection. It’s a little chaotic, deeply clever, and somehow feels both primal and futuristic at the same time. This is work that doesn’t just include digital elements, but it transforms how we use them to relate to each other.

LONG FEATURE AWARD
THRESHOLD
Julien Eveillé
The long feature award is for complex games that immerse players in rich worlds full of detail. This game, while it might have looked smaller at first sight, surprised us again and again as we unraveled its many layers with each choice and playthrough.
It presents a simple routine that has you going around doing all sorts of tasks. But things slowly turn around and present a different face. Everything gains a new meaning, even breathing. And going off the beaten path is equally exciting and unsettling.
After finishing it, we started talking and sharing our experiences, and even then, we kept finding more layers hidden underneath. In our eyes, this seemingly small game now looked huge, dense, and complex.
Laudation by Luis Díaz Peralta aka Ludipe
EXPLORER AWARD
Flora
You enter a space. It is dark. In the centre is a glowing surface on which glittering objects move. To the music they spin around themselves, sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly.. The world casts its spell over you. And you realise that there are other people in the room and you want to join them. You begin to move and shift objects. You immerse yourself completely in the world.
The interactive installation described here is an outstanding realisation of how the parts of our ecosystem are interconnected. A multitude of metaphors develop in the joint game that relate to the influence of humans on natural processes.
We, the jury, were very impressed by how the players are invited to explore the space, listen to and become part of a larger cycle. We think that in order to develop a response to climate change as a society, we must first understand our own actions. This is done here in a technically and narratively very beautiful, playful and poetic way.
Laudation by Sarah Reimann
AUDIENCE AWARD
Breaking News by Danil Bialo, Tamir Herzberg, Evyatar Cohen was selected by all participants as the winner of the Audience Award out of all exhibited works.
MOST AMAZING AWARD
despelote
Julián Cordero, Sebastián Valbuena, Gabe Cuzzillo and Ian Berman
You walk across the soft grass of a familiar park, through the gentle hum of adult conversations you can’t quite decipher but somehow feel comforting, along the fragile yet warm roads of a hometown that feels like your own. And then it dawns on you. This place you remember is somewhere you’ve never truly been, not once, not even in a dream. As the boundary between the creator’s memories and the player’s own quietly fades, we are reminded of a simple truth that the most personal stories can often be the most universal. In this way, the game becomes a gift, offering a glimpse of what it means for games to be an art of experience, shared not with spectacle but with quiet, heartfelt grace.
Laudation by Somi
WINGS AWARD
Curiosmos
Céline & the Silly Stars
WINGS is very proud to return to A MAZE. and present for the third year in a row the “WINGS Award”. Our mission at WINGS is to offer funding and opportunities to gender-diverse teams, amplifying the incredible work they do in games.
The WINGS Award highlights outstanding games where women and other gender marginalized developers hold key positions. Selected from 5 incredible nominees, this year’s winner will receive the award alongside a 2.000€ prize.
This year’s winner begins with silence.
A slow unfolding. A quiet invitation.
To feel small and powerful at the same time.
A game that hands you the universe. Literally.
A playful, poetic sandbox where you build your own solar system from scratch: sculpting planets, pulling moons into orbit, adjusting gravity, playing with atmospheres, and even sparking life.
It’s the kind of game that makes you feel powerful and small at the same time, like a cosmic engineer with a glue stick.
It was made by a queen that slays. Always has. But since 2022, she hasn’t just slayed solo, she gathered a crew to bring this celestial vision to life.
AND NOW?
Public Play Day, Saturday, May 17th
is for the whole family to explore the amazing alternative and independent games and playful media world of A MAZE. / Berlin. Kids until 12 getting in for free, family passes are available. A MAZE. shows the best of arthouse gaming including alternative controller games, vr experiences, indie games. There are some community talks and game design workshops for everyone interested in game creation. This year there is also a local multiplayer tournament, an analog market and special crafting workshops: nerdy masks and temporary tattoo making. PAX East 2025 has just wrapped up in Boston. Like most PAX events, this was a massive convention sprawling across several venues, tens of thousands of attendees, and massive hundred thousand square feet of space. And if you had attended, especially for more than one day, then you likely recognized that planning what to pack in advance is essential.
Even if you have attended a larger event before, you almost certainly know what it’s like to realize you hadn’t brought something important like a fully-charged battery charger, comfortable shoes, enough cash, or something else important like that. I’ve certainly been in that position myself.
Enter Pyra Sydannia‘s YouTube video. In this recent 20+ minute video, she lays out some of the key things that she was packing for her trip to PAX East 2025 as an attendee with a media badge. Among some of the suggestions are the bags she’d use, wallet and what to keep in it, earbuds, mobile gaming accessories, health and medical kit, business cards, a gimbal for her recoding setup, pens, and more. (Granted, what anyone might want or need at a show will vary based on their personal circumstances.)
If you have have plans to attend a larger convention where convenience, comfort and connection is important, Pyra Sydannia’s video is likely to suggest ideas you may not necessarily have thought of. Check out the video to learn more about her ideas for what to bring to gaming events!
Did you attend PAX East 2025? What packing ideas did you have while attending this show (or plan to include in your bring-alongs for other larger conventions coming up)? Feel free to share your thoughts about it below or on our social media posts about this story!
Whether you are an event coordinator, press, or general attendee, if you have an event video to share with us, please let us know and we’ll be happy to feature it!
Layoffs are happening around the world at major studios, indie developers are struggling to secure funding, and many of us in the industry are feeling the weight of burnout and uncertainty about what comes next (nevermind the financial markets with investors). The game industry has always been somewhat unpredictable with successful game ideas being an often serendipitous reality — but never before like it is now. It breaks my heart when I see talented and hard-working industry individuals being pushed to the edge.
There is hope in a sector of the industry we often don’t pay enough attention to. Let’s start first with an idea of where we stand in 2025, at least from my perspective.
State of the Game Industry in 2025
I’ve been passionately involved in the game industry for over two decades now with much of that being in the professional space (by that, I mean getting paid for the work I do). You could say the industry is my second love of life. I’ve seen both incredibly exciting highs, and lows that felt like I was being sucked into a blackhole with no hope of escape. Layoffs are happening at major studios, funding for indie games is harder to come by, and it seems like the pressure is on everyone to do more with less (and no, AI won’t necessarily save us here either, but that’s a thought for another story).
Success has been particularly elusive for smaller developers — those of us who aren’t part of the giant studios but who still pour our hearts and souls into making games. Many of us are facing burnout, especially with the culture of crunch still prevalent, and it’s a real challenge to stay motivated when you don’t know where the next paycheck or opportunity will come from. AAA studios have a tough time too but on a broader level than the individual. Developing AAA games is incredibly expensive, especially when considering the risk of developing for a new and unproven intellectual property.
Even though things are tough right now for many of us (and our 401ks), I can’t help but feel optimistic when I look at both indie developers and nonprofit organizations making such a big difference behind the scenes. While I just described indie developers as having a tough time too, investments are expected in the coming years to pour more into smaller studio efforts. Unique small-scale games may become even more prominent than they are today. As for nonprofits, they have been critical in helping people across the industry stay afloat though career support and other services in ways that aren’t always obvious.
The Role of Nonprofits in the Game Industry
Near, or perhaps at the top of those hopeful things, would have to be nonprofit organizations. You would be surprised how many there actually are in the game industry. In writing this article, I came across over two dozen large-scale nonprofits like IGDA.org, TheEsa.com, AbleGamers.org, and many more that I did not know about before. These organizations are not just supporting developers and gamers — they’re actively shaping the future of the industry in ways that truly matter.
One of the organizations I’ve followed for many years now is the IGDA Foundation (IGDA for short), which has been doing amazing work to support groups in need. They do this through mentor programs and career-building initiatives, attending events like GDC (Game Developers Conference) to be at locations you are already at, and more. When I was just starting out in the industry, I can’t tell you how important it was to have access to the kind of resources they provide. I even joined the IGDA for several years as chair of their Community Management SIG to give something back.
“Game developers need community now more than ever,”said Dr. Jakin Vela, Executive Director of the IGDA. “In a time of industry volatility, game developers rely on solidarity among one another.”
Another nonprofit that stands out is Take This, which focuses on mental health in gaming. Take This has been breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health. Mental health support is so crucial, especially in an industry like ours where stress and burnout can often feel like a constant battle on the developer side with peer pressure and competitive issues on the player side. It’s great how Take This creates safe spaces for developers to talk about their struggles, and their panels at events like PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) have been a huge step forward in making mental health a more open and important conversation in gaming.
Keep in mind that these organizations aren’t just supporting individual developers—they’re influencing the direction of the entire industry. The work they do is not just about donating to a charity event or supporting nonprofits in other ‘typical’ ways, they’re also about creating real, sustainable change for the betterment of our industry.
Nonprofits at Industry Events: Fostering Growth and Connection
Naturally, I wouldn’t write an article like this one unless it somehow tied into industry events. Nonprofits play a significant role at events — whether those events are large conventions like PAX, GDC, or smaller community-driven gatherings, like the Evercon tabletop and retro gaming event in Wisconsin. Be sure to check out our recent podcast interview with Evercon’s owner, Joshua Jaeger.
All of these events, every single one listed in our calendar, in fact, are essential for the growth of the gaming industry. They bring together developers, players, and other industry professionals, creating opportunities for learning, networking, and collaboration. But beyond all front-facing elements you see at them, nonprofits are often at the heart of these events, doing crucial work that helps foster innovation and inclusivity in the industry.
I’ve seen firsthand how nonprofits like Take This and the IGDA Foundation create safe spaces for attendees to talk about mental health, diversity, and career opportunities. At conventions, they host panels, workshops, and community-building activities that are not only educational but also genuinely supportive. These events provide a platform for individuals to learn about critical issues, connect with others facing similar challenges, and access resources that can advance their careers.
Nonprofits help level the playing field. While big companies can afford extravagant booths and flashy presentations, smaller devs and marginalized voices might not have the same resources (and perhaps don’t want such an outlandish presentation anyway). This is where nonprofits can step in as they provide opportunities for all voices to be heard – especially the individual contributor.
Game Devs of Color Expo does phenomenal work promoting diversity and inclusivity through their annual event (which we have listed right here for 2025). As someone who believes deeply in the importance of representation in games, I love how this organization creates a platform for developers of color to showcase their work and make their voices heard. Their mission to make the industry more welcoming for everyone is a quality I wish more events and organizations focused on.
For me, attending events hosted or supported by nonprofits has been one of the best ways to find support, learn new skills, and make meaningful connections. It’s not just about showing up—it’s about participating, learning, and pushing the conversation forward. Nonprofits at these events help make the industry feel more like a community than a business, and that’s something I’ve personally found to be incredibly rewarding.
Nonprofits focus on things that truly matter—like mental health, diversity, accessibility, and career development. These are the things that will shape the future of gaming, and they’re the things that should be at the forefront of our industry’s priorities from this point forward.
Supporting these organizations also helps make the game industry a more fun space to be involved in. Nonprofits provide that safe and low cost space where new members to the industry can gather and discuss all the exciting new games and technology being developed. They offer the support that allows people from all backgrounds to succeed, whether that’s financial support for indie developers or creating spaces where people can talk about their mental health challenges.
How it often feels looking for entry-level work in the games industry these days (image: Reddit)
These challenging times has proven a roadblock for many new folks entering the industry. For instance, I’ve seen “entry level” job postings requiring 2-4 years of experience. Hiring managers… “entry level” means “suitable for a beginner or first-time starter”, otherwise call it something else. Don’t waste the poor young generation’s hopes and dreams on a falsehood. If you strongly want but do not require 2-4 years of experience, then post the mention in a Preferred category of the job description.
For those of us just starting out or looking to move our careers forward, nonprofits can be a critical resource. Please support and donate (if not through your wallet, donate your time) to as many of them as you can. Many of these organizations offer mentorship programs, job placement resources, and career coaches—things that can make a real difference when you’re trying to break into the industry. They open doors to career-building opportunities that would be hard to find elsewhere, especially when job opportunities seem scarce or misleading after you’ve been ghosted over and over again.
How Individuals Can Get Involved
I got my start in the game industry thanks to nonprofits and I don’t regret a moment of that time invested. If you are just getting started in the industry and not sure how to move your career to the next stage, consider becoming involved in and supporting some of the nonprofits in the list below:
The simplest ways to support them with minimal commitment is to:
1. Donate: Whether it’s $5 or $500, donations go a long way in supporting the programs and initiatives these organizations offer. A small donation can help fund scholarships, mental health resources, and career development opportunities for aspiring game developers. Every little bit helps.
2. Volunteer: If you’ve got the time and skills, nonprofits are always looking for volunteers. Whether it’s helping out at events, providing mentorship, or offering your expertise, volunteering can be a great way to give back. Especially if you’re an artist, writer, developer, or designer, your skills are valuable to these organizations.
3. Spread the Word: Not everyone knows about the amazing work these nonprofits are doing. Help raise awareness by sharing their posts, talking about them on social media, or even mentioning them at industry events. Sometimes the best thing you can do is make sure others know they exist.
4. Collaborate: If you’re a developer or in some way part of a studio, think about collaborating with a nonprofit. Whether it’s helping with a community event, providing a platform for underrepresented voices, or offering financial support, collaboration can help nonprofits expand their reach and make a bigger impact.
Or just tell others about these nonprofits. I’ve been part of so many discussions about the state of the game industry, but too few that ever mention a nonprofit – even the mention of IGDA.org itself is sometimes surprisingly lacking. I’m still not sure why nonprofits aren’t lifted up as much as they should be, but I am writing this article precisely to try and change that perception once and for all.
The next time you attend any event, take a look around the show floor, from the speaker lineup to the booth spaces, and I bet you’ll find one or two nonprofits looking to be noticed. Don’t walk past them and instead stop and say hello. That’s where doors can open for you and for many others.

May 14-17 A MAZE./ Berlin 2025 – 14th International Games and Playful Media Festival will open its doors at silent green Kulturquartier and Panke Culture, Berlin Wedding. Today, A MAZE. is pleased to announce some of the festival highlights.
For the 14th edition A MAZE. has created a 3,5 days program. Just to mention a few highlights: Opening performance AFTERLIFE by Only Slime, a performance duo from Norway who acts between music, game design, AI-assisted art, performance and 3D animation.
The performance HOLY SHIT. A MULTIMEDIA PROJECT TO SAVE THE WORLD von Evy Schubert & Partners in Crime where games meet performing arts. Our second cooperation with HAU to bring Total Refusal, game performance collective from Vienna on stage. Talks by Somi, last year’s Most Amazing Award winner; Aluta Null, A MAZE. Awards judge and an artist commentary play session by Josef Martinovsky, creator of the game Keep Driving. Conversations will tackle topics such as childhood trauma, meaningful design from a cultural perspective and the curation of non-commercial games. A couple of experimental sessions sprinkled throughout the program will bring some playful surprises to the festival. New this year is a cinema block where the documentaries Weird Games Manifesto and The Blood on Our Controllers are shown.
Welcome, Sokpop!
Ten years and over a hundred games: Time for a retrospective. A MAZE. invites Dutch video game collective Sokpop to show a selection of their works – and some brand new things – made just for the festival! Video: Sokpop x A MAZE. Berlin
Sokpop is the collective of game designers Aran, Ruben, Tijmen, and Tom from the Netherlands. They started out together, making one game per month for their Patreon. Financing Sokpop with this monthly support of loyal fans, they chose not to worry about the competitive games market but instead focus on making fun, inventive, and charmingly weird little worlds – games that surprise the players and sometimes leave them wondering. A MAZE. / Berlin being the place where it all started years ago, A MAZE. is thrilled to have the “video game boyband from the future” over in the studio expo space (down the ramp and up the stairs) and together explore the curious world of Sokpop.
Judges, Categories and Performers at the A MAZE. Awards
After the nomination of this year’s 25 games and playful media works, the judges spend the last weeks reviewing and discussing all of them. From today, the categories of the nominations are decided.
After seven years, Tim Rogers will return to moderate the Award Show on May 16, 8pm. He plans to wear his best suit and will leave nothing uncommented, just as in his video essays. For the musical support, Dogshow will invite the audience to a ritualistic ‘howling at the moon’ ceremony. These two full-bodied canine brothers are on a mission to create the ultimate party experience.
Get your scissors and pencils ready, set, go! program: https://2025.amaze-berlin.de/schedule/
Panke Culture
After the silent green day program in four nights we invite festival goers and visitors to Panke Culture to celebrate the future of arthouse gaming with a lineup of eclectic music and games.
Highlight is the exhibition by the parisian Game Art Collective Distraction.fun. Their game show Comfort Me is playable in the Panke Gallery. Plus, Robin Baumgarten will install Quantum Wobbler and Free Lives from South Africa will present their local multiplayer game Sex with Friends.
We’ve put together another great list of events you can attend for May 2025!
The month is shaping up to be really exciting. I’m personally looking forward to PAX East (May 8–11), which always brings tons of hands-on demos and indie gems to discover. Then there’s Digital Dragons in Krakow (May 18–20), one of the best events for connecting with devs across Europe. And if you’re into the Nordic scene, Nordic Game Spring (May 20–23) is another highlight—always super collaborative and insightful. And TwitchCon Rotterdam (May 31–June 1) is closing out the month with big creator vibes and community love.
It’s a full calendar, and I can’t wait to see what surprises come out of it all. Many of the conferences listed in May will also have sessions and discussions about the state of the industry that continue from D.I.C.E., GDC, and event conventions like PAX East.
Check out the complete month’s event list below, but first…

The Game Developer Conference (GDC) is one of the major annual events on any game developer’s calendar. But, of course, for many reasons, it’s not always easy for many folks to attend a show like GDC 2025. Perhaps the next best thing to being there is getting a good, long look at part of the exhibition floor and many of the games, services, tools, and developers on showcase. If so, then this Video of the Month will be a treat.
Thanks to broadcaster NBC Bay Area, who livestreamed a two hour stream on Wednesday (March 19) from the expo floor of GDC 2025 across YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook, viewers helped direct the stream so they could see who and what interested them. In this on-demand recording, it’s possible to see some some of the dominant presences on the floor, like Discord, AWS, Microsoft, and other major tech companies invested in the game development space.
Around the 16 minute mark, alternative game control-focused ctrl.alt.gdc section and the elbow-to-elbow crowds are explored for over 15 minutes, so it’s possible to get a good look at some unique indie game concepts.
The Game History Gallery, which we highlighted last year, is part of the walkthrough around the 43 minute mark, with a few of the unreleased games shown. It’s very cool stuff, if you’re a fan of obscure, rare, and interesting video game development history.
Among some of the other companies surfaced in the walkthrough is Ovomind (at the one-hour mark), a company launching a smartband this year that captures emotions and stress that an AI algorithm can convert into in-game feedback and outcomes. A little bit later, there’s a demo with Ethereal Matter, behind their EVA suit, which creates full-body, interactive, immersive experiences by connecting the virtual world to the physical.
Over the course of two hours, there’s plenty more to see and check out, and to explore it, settle in with the full video that follows!
Did you attend GDC 2025? Did you see and check out some of these companies, games and services vendors, or developers? Feel free to share your thoughts about it below or on our social media posts about this story!
Whether you are an event coordinator, press, or general attendee, if you have an event video to share with us, please let us know and we’ll be happy to feature it!
