We touched on the big hardware reveals from NVIDIA and Intel in recent days. Is there a case to be made for the next-gen consoles, or are they already beaten before launch? Some feel there’s plenty of room for the PS5, Xbox Series X and, of course, PC gaming:

“Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX 3000-series is seriously impressive. If the GeForce RTX 2000-series brought dedicated ray-tracing hardware and smart graphics rendering techniques to PC gaming, then the RTX 3000-series supercharged it.

This has seen a lot of PC fans declare that the PC is once again the gaming machine of choice, and dunk upon the PS5 and Xbox Series X. In terms of raw performance that’s true; the 12 teraflops of the Xbox Series X isn’t going to challenge the 36 shader teraflops of the GeForce RTX 3090. But in other terms, the next-generation consoles are far from redundant. Allow me to explain why.”

Taking the cue from that last sentence, be sure to read the story above to dig into this story’s argument why the PS5 abd Xbox Series X stand a fighting chance in the duel of next-gen gaming hardware.

“It’s-a Mario’s 35th birthday, and Nintendo is celebrating its classic little Italian plumber with several new Switch titles including some remastered beloved classics.

On Thursday morning, Nintendo unveiled a flurry of new and new-to-Switch Mario-centered games that will launch over the next few months, timed with the 35th anniversary of the character’s introduction in the original “Super Mario.”
The new titles are a mix of the old and the new, tapping into nostalgia with revamped classic titles and experimenting with newer form factors like real-life toys.
“We are marking this significant milestone with a wide variety of games and experiences that all generations of Mario fans, from here to the Mushroom Kingdom, can enjoy together,” Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said in a press release.”

“2020 has been a year like no other. As the world has been stuck inside amid the coronavirus pandemic, some media and entertainment has thrived, particularly video games, where gaming hours have increased across the board. In some ways, though, 2020 feels similar — film remakes like Disney’s “Mulan”, Universal’s “Dolittle” and HBO’s “Scoob!” have reimagined old franchises with new thoughts, and gaming isn’t too different.

For years, many game developers have remastered old franchises or made sequels long after the fact. It’s a trend: people love nostalgia. On Sept. 4, “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2,” a remaster of the first two wildly-popular, trend-setting skateboarding titles, will release across the globe. Since its announcement, the game has garnered hype from both old fans, who played the titles more than two decades ago, and newcomers alike.”
