Robert Grossberg: A Mobile Leap of Faith – Casual Connect Video

0

Robert Grossberg, Co-founder and CEO at TreSensa, describes the proudest moment of his career as “when I said to myself, ‘Why not me?’ and took the leap to start TreSensa.” He emphasizes that starting your own business requires that leap of faith, believing that your vision can be translated into a viable enterprise. It is also a scary thing to do, especially if you have a family to support. 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards announce exciting new fall format

2013 and 2014 games to be awarded November 21, 2014

February 14, 2014 (Toronto, ON) – The production team of Reboot Communications and EP Media announced today that the 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs) will move to November 21, 2014 in Toronto, Ontario. This national award show celebrates excellence in Canadian-made videogames and has been held in Vancouver for the past four years.

This date change will facilitate the proper amount of production and promotional attention for the CVAs and provide our country’s game-making community an annual end of the year celebration.

“I couldn’t be more excited about moving the CVAs to Toronto! Moving the date to later in the year means more time for us to develop the program and ensure that we have the whole country’s attention. It’s going to be an amazing ceremony and I can’t wait to help honour Canada’s incredibly talented game community!” said Victor Lucas, co-host and executive producer of The Electric Playground.

An end of year show date will provide additional support for sponsors, finalists and nominees of the Canadian Videogame Awards as they promote their games for the holiday market. “Re-positioning the CVAs to the end of the year will allow us to better align our marketing with the industry’s schedule and provide additional value to all of our partners. This move is going to facilitate growth for the awards in years to come and strengthen this strategic pillar for the Canadian videogame industry,” said Greg Spievak, CEO of Reboot Communications.

The 2014 show will include 2013 and 2014 made games to be awarded separately, based on the nomination year, in one ceremony. Award nominations for 2013 have already closed and the adjudication process will continue as planned. Nomination details for 2014 will be announced in June.

The Canadian Videogame Awards are produced by Reboot Communications and EP Media, and officially endorsed by the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, Interactive Ontario and DigiBC. The producers are joined by a national advisory board of developers and leaders in the Canadian digital entertainment industry.

VentureBeat To Host Six Conferences in 2014

0

VentureBeat sent out word this week about the schedule for the six conferences they’re hosting throughout 2014.  One of these conferences is focused exclusively on gaming (the sixth annual GamesBeat), while others feature themes, speakers and sponsors that will overlap with the gaming space, such as the exclusive VentureBeat Mobile Summit and MobileBeat. All of these events will be hosted in the San Francisco Bay area.

The media giant sent a mailing identifying the purpose for these six conferences: “This year we’re focusing on “growth” as a connecting theme for all events. It’s taken a while, but all of the puzzle pieces have fallen into place: Smartphones are now mainstream. Cloud is mainstream. So are Big Data tools, social networks, and data-driven marketing software. All of these technologies are enabling companies to grow faster and smarter than ever before — and they’re driving revenues and profits.”

The doors are open to submit a talk, check out sponsorship and even register are all open for GamesBeat and Mobilebeat, while an applicant may request an invitation to attend VentureBeat Mobile Summit.

To check out any or all of these conferences, take a look at VentureBeat’s 2014 conference and summit list here.

Mobile UA Fellowship Launches Website — and Exclusive GDC Dinner Event

0

Mobile user acquisition — and user retention, too, for that matter — is a tricky and expensive business, but an essential part of greasing the wheels for the mobile gaming industry. According to Super Data Research, “in the past two years, the cost per install on mobile increased from $1.30 in January, 2012, to $4.36 in December, an increase of 288% … More importantly, the average revenue per mobile gamer has failed to keep pace: in that same period monthly spending grew 38%.”

Navigating the ever-changing waters of mobile UA is the main purpose for the Mobile UA Fellowship, which has recently launched their website.

The UA Fellowship is described, in their own words, as the “the largest network of mobile UA leaders in the industry. It is a not-for-profit think tank aimed at exploring the latest trends in marketing, advertising and distribution for mobile applications. Founded in 2013, the fellowship aims to bring together the top decision makers at mobile application companies to foster strategic, forward-thinking discussions at its events and meetups.”

Having hosted several events in the past, the UA Fellowship has also announced their next one: an exclusive dinner for guests of the UA Fellowship during GDC 2014 in SF. To check out details of the presentation, open bar and dinner, to sign up for the chance to attend, check out the Eventbrite event page.

Lvl Up Expo 2014 in photos

This past week we attended the local Las Vegas Lvl Up Expo 2014 at Cashman Center downtown. We went in skeptical that Las Vegas could host such a pure game industry event, but came away pleasantly surprised.

The expo isn’t your typical PAX or even Gen Con, but it comes close to providing that all-encompassing atmosphere that general game event gamers are looking for, especially the board game tournaments!

Here is the Lvl Up Expo 2014 in photos
