Smartphones, Netbooks Poised for Strong Growth

Las Vegas, NV, January 7, 2010 – The consumer electronics (CE) industry will generate more than $165 billion in U.S. shipment revenues this year, a slight increase from 2009, according to the semi-annual industry forecast released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro announced the forecast in his opening remarks at the 2010 International CES®, the world's largest consumer technology trade show.

LAS VEGAS, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) Chief Executive Steve Ballmer unveiled a new Hewlett-Packard Co (HPQ.N) tablet computer on Wednesday, beating Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) hotly anticipated move into the market.

But analysts were skeptical that Microsoft and HP could generate as much consumer excitement as Apple's new device, widely expected to be unveiled on Jan. 27, though the company has not said anything about it publicly.

Ballmer showed off the new device at the end of his keynote speech at the CES technology show in Las Vegas.

Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz has canceled her keynote appearance at CES 2010.

Carol Bartz has a pretty electric personality and she's often referred to as "Hurricane Carol." As the leader of a struggling web portal, she makes for an interesting speaker and her participation in CES 2010 was announced by the Consumer Electronics Association last month. However, Tech Trader Daily noticed something odd about a CEA press release sent out on Tuesday.

Carol Bartz, president and chief executive officer of Yahoo! Inc., will deliver a keynote address at the 2010 International CES.
