Malaysia @ the Dubai World Game Expo 2010

Nov 23 2010 12:00 AM | Events For Gamers in DWG Expo

DUBAI, 24 November 2010 – Malaysia will be making its debut at the third Dubai World Game Expo 2010 from 29 November to 1 December with a contingent of 10 companies representing the country’s Game, Content and 3D Animation industry.

Malaysia’s presence at the Expo is indicative of the country’s ongoing paradigm shift from manufacturing to a knowledge-based and innovation-centred economy. The companies have been brought to Dubai by The Futurist Foundation with the full support of Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).

“Malaysia has a growing Game, Content and 3D animation industry, with companies that are already doing business around the world as well as capable pre-seed companies with great ideas and potential,” said The Futurist Foundation’s Founder and CEO, Sheikh Faleigh Sheikh Mansor. “Nurturing young entrepreneurs is one of our main aims, and we are now bringing more than 10 companies this year and we are building a big pavilion for them so that their potential partners and maybe even investor will be impressed”.

“Our games development industry has already produced a pool of expertise and a number of projects that are not just technologically savvy, but also able to effectively generate and implement strategic and functional ideas. With the games industry being a multi-trillion dollar global business, Malaysia seeks to expand its presence by strategically partnering and penetrating the Middle Eastern market,” he said.

Participating companies at the Malaysian pavillion include LC Games Development Inc, Quark Energy, Terato Tech, Xadira, Funcel, Forest Interactive, Internexia, Salt Media Consultancy, Hez Media Interactive, 2 clicks, Iked Systems and many more.

Quark Energy’s CEO, Amir Irwan Bahruddin, said he hoped that taking part in the Expo would create greater exposure for the company’s game Hidden Down, which is slated for release next year. “I would also like to promote our services and our studio , E-One Studio , which is has a team of 40 people and is a licensed PS3 and XBOX360 developer, based out of Malaysia and Singapore.”

MDeC is a government agency that has been entrusted to help the growth of the content industry. One of its latest initiatives has been the MSC Malaysia Animation Creative Content Centre, or MAC3, which was established to provide the funding, technology and resources to develop the necessary talent that would launch Malaysia as a leading provider of creative digital content.

When asked the MDeC’s CEO, H.E. Datuk Badlisham Ghazali on the rationale of Malaysia’s participation in the Expo: “We are serious in nurturing our game and content companies to be a global player and I would like them to also explore the Middle east market since we are also a Muslim Country and I believe the Dubai World game Expo is a good platform”.
