The signs of a great conference: A LOGIN 2011 review

The first event we ever attended was an E3 Expo with its endless booth babe... er, presentations that a show of its type wraps around you in an attempt to draw your attention in eight different directions at once. Last week was the LOGIN Conference, a much more social and tight-knit event that every industry professional should treat themselves to at least once.

Here is a collection of the game event badges we have acquired over the past few years:

Events For Gamers has been to at least one event of each type listed on our site. Starting with fan events like QuakeCon, then large showfloor conventions like E3 Expo, a couple of trips overseas to industry-related events such as Computex, smaller single-day conferences we usually place under the Summits category, and of course multi-day conferences like LOGIN.

LOGIN provides what we see as 'Lots Of Great Industry Networking'. This acronym isn't official, but it sure fits well with what you experience at the conference. A three-day event set in beautiful downtown Bellevue just east of Seattle, LOGIN provides daily lectures, panels, roundtables, a vendor area, and other networking friendly social gatherings.

Let's take a quick gander through each of the day's main themes:

Monday started off in the afternoon with each speaker introducing themselves in the main speaker room via the direction of the Master of Ceremonies, Pat Cashman, followed quickly by a cocktail networking event. The hall outside was lined with sponsors from iovation, Dolby, mopay, and many others that provided just the right balance to fill out the meeting areas.

Tuesday was the first full day schedule, starting with a hearty VIP breakfast, and then just before lunch a fantastic keynote presentation by Richard Garriott about the Three Grand Eras of Game Development. You can read a summary of the keynote over at Mmorpg.com.

Even with an evening of cocktails, it was clear during Wednesday's breakfast that everyone was even more energized by their meetings and discussions of the past couple of days, as the morning's sessions were nearly filled. The afternoon's highlight and conference closure was the Facebook Game Developer Boot Camp, focusing on social games in the web space.

LOGIN is one of the best organized events we have had the pleasure of attending. Each event in the industry certainly has a niche it trys to cater to. LOGIN's is its ease of access for industry professionals, top notch panels and speakers, and a conservative venue for quickly building your business relationships.

It is one of those game industry events you just go to.

- Mathew Anderson, Events For Gamers Director
